FAQs
How can I make a same-day appointment with an Orthodontist?
It’s always a good idea to call Dr. Johnson’s office directly, as sending an email or filling out a web form will not get you a response as quickly. A phone call is also much more effective, as it allows us to better understand your situation and get you in for the best care as soon as possible.
The goal of any same-day appointment is for Dr. Johnson to assess the situation, eliminate any sources of pain, and finalize any treatment plans for the future that cannot be performed during the initial appointment. In some cases, he may be able to complete a more advanced treatment same-day.
What is the best way to find a cosmetic dentist?
There are many professional organizations for Orthodontists here in the United States. It is best to locate an orthodontist with heavy involvement in any of these. Some of the highest-profile organizations in America include:
- The American Association of Orthodontists
- The American Academy of Sleep Medicine
- The International Association of Orofacial Myology
Dr. Johnson is proudly a member of all three of these prestigious organizations. Active membership in programs such as these ensures that your orthodontist has access to a vast array of continuing education opportunities and meets stringent qualifications to treat patients like you.

What level of education is required to be an Orthodontist?
Here in the United States, all orthodontists must begin as a dentist, and all dentists must earn either a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or a Doctor of Dental Sciences (DDS) from one of the nation’s 67 Accredited dental schools.
To be accepted into dental school requires the student to have earned a bachelor's degree with very high grades in math and science. Dental school is an additional three-year program that combines classroom and hands-on education.
Following dental school, some dentists choose to earn one of twelve specializations recognized by the American Dental Association, including orthodontics. These require an additional three or more years of training.
All dentists are required by law to complete a minimum amount of continuing education hours to maintain their license to practice. This may vary by state and location.
